About Andru

 




Andru's career in entertainment started at the young age of four where he worked in both the film, and television industry, in Vancouver, Canada.

His diverse set appearances included Stephan J. Canell's "Wiseguy" starring Ken Wahl, and "We're No Angels" starring Sean Penn, Robert DiNero, and the then up and coming Demi Moore.

The highlight of his theatre career was when he was still in middle school. Andru was exposed to the complex world of Shakespeare, through the University Of Arizona Drama Department, in Tucson, Arizona, when he was cast to perform the role of Fleance, the son of Banquo, in Macbeth.

It was around that time that his interests expanded to radio, where, at 13, Andru entered into an mentorship program within radio.

Andru has a total of 13 years in the radio world working with major radio stations across the United States and Canada. He has completed internships and careers with Clear Channel Communications, America's largest radio network.

His radio career started in Tucson, Arizona on stations such as (the now defunct) 92.9 "Cool FM" (KWFM) , 93.7 KRQQ FM, then moved to Mix 93.1 (WHYN-FM) WHYN 560 AM and Kix 97.9 Country (WPKX FM) in Springfield, MA.

Andru has worked with many radio talents and has worked under the same roof as R-Dub (host of "Slow Jams with R-Dub"), San Diego's famous "Rich Brother Robin", Tucson’s "Nixon Low", Lisa "Carr", Mike "Hollywood" Hafner, Winnipeg's legendary “Howard Manshein” and America’s TV favourite, Gary Coleman, (who had an internship at 93.7 KRQ FM, the same time as Andru!).

Andru has hosted, produced and edited multiple independent on-air radio shows including shows such as "Late Night with Dr Dru" (WCCH 103.5 FM), "The Better Than Bob Show" and "The Aimless and Andy Show After Hours" (CJUM 101.5 FM).

He currently produces the highly acclaimed radio program entitled Wake Up Winnipeg a 30 minute news-magazine talk show which airs on CJUM 101.5 FM. (Thursdays 6:00-6:30pm, Wednesdays' 6:30am -7:00AM). For more information, check out http://wakeupwinnipeg.com

Aside from his hands-on experience, Andru has voluntarily studied communications and media relations for over 10 years and has also and worked as a DJ with various night clubs including the "Inn-Sane" bar and night club as well as "The Country Corral" night club located in Winnipeg and various other mobile entertainment companies, inlcuding his own personally run "North Star Entertainment". 

Andru successfully hosted Winnipeg's first "MySpace Party" in March of 2004, where Myspace users voted for their favourite Winnipeg Bands. He then continued to work with various organizations including Shannon’s Irish Pub and High North Records to put on The Winnipeg Underground.ca release party. He most recently organized the Aimless & Andy 2 year, 100th episode anniversary party at the Times Change(d) High and Lonesome club, with donations going to Jazz On Wheels and The Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Andru has also played in various bands and has studied music as a drummer since elementary school/ He has performed at such venues as the University of Arizona and Arizona State University and other various functions.

He received his high school letters for his participation and dedication to the Canyon Del Oro Marching Band from 1998-2002. Andru likes to give back to the communities he lives in, and is always getting involved as much as he can.

In March of 2010, Andru arranged and organized "A Show for Haiti" at the Park Theatre in Winnipeg Manitoba with proceeds donated to The Red Cross for the relief of Haiti.

All of the work he does for UMFM is voluntary. He also has volunteered with various other local organizations including CKUW from the University of Winnipeg, The Jazz Winnipeg Music Festival, The Ellice Street Fair, The Winnipeg Folk Festival, the Westfield Theatre Group and served as a vice president of the Westfield High School Improv Troupe in Massachusetts.

Aside from all of that, he is a photographer and a amateur videographer and sits on various other volunteer committees within the community. He also manages a local band entitled In The Out Door.
